Summer Leadership Institute Program 2006


Plainfield, Indiana - June 5 to 24, 2006

Human achievement is, to a great extent, the result of effective leadership, capable management, and vibrant communities. Yet leadership effectiveness, managerial capability, and community vibrancy can only be achieved through planned efforts to acquire these qualities.

ISNA Leadership Development Center (ILDC) offers a full program of intensive courses during its annual Summer Leadership Institute (SLI), while providing partial programs throughout the year at various metro areas. Participants in ISNA Leadership Development Center (ILDC) programs will have the opportunity to complete course requirements in three-week period at SLI or to enroll in three different courses that can be offered at different metro areas.

Program Objectives

  • Enhance effective leadership and managerial skills
  • Develop communication and conflict prevention skills
  • Present central Islamic principles, so participants gain understanding as to how Islamic teaching relates to life in North America

Who Should Enroll

  • Current and aspiring imams,
  • Chaplains serving in universities, prisons, the armed forces, and the various departments of government.
  • Community leaders, including directors and board members of Islamic centers, directors and board members of national and local Muslim organizations, Muslim activists, and active community members.
  • Teachers interested in developing leadership qualities among their students.
  • Youth leaders, including leaders of youth organizations, as well as youth with the potential to provide leadership to the Muslim community.
  • Individuals interested in developing leadership capabilities.

Program Design

  • SLI offers three intensive weeklong courses taught over a three-week period. Each course consists of 45 course hours, including 36 contact hours and 9 credit hours of either an essay or practicum.
  • Participants who complete all program requirements will receive a Certificate in Leadership and Islamic Excellence (CLIE). Participants who complete one course will be given a transcript of completion for that course.
  • ILDC offers the full program of intensive courses during its annual Summer Leadership Institute, and partial programs throughout the year at various metro areas. Participants in ILDC leadership programs who wish to receive the CLIE will have the opportunity to complete course requirements in a three-week period of SLI , or to enroll in three different courses that will insha Allah, be offered in various metro areas.
